Located on Kalimdor's western edge, the aptly-named Desolace is a valley between the Stonetalon Mountains to the north, and Feralas to the south. It is located directly west of the Tauren capital of Thunder Bluff, and is a bleak wasteland, with a constantly dark sky, and foul pollution everywhere, not unlike Elizabeth, NJ.
Nestled in the mountains on the zone's northern edge, the outpost of Nijel's Point is the only safe haven for Alliance players.
The kodo graveyard is where the giant, dinosaur-like creatures migrate to die.
The Mannoroc Coven, located in the south, is home to Burning Blade cultists, who are up to no good, summoning infernals and other demons into the world.
The only break from the depressing dark plains came on the western coast, which offered a nice view, and some better weather. No wonder the Horde chose it for their settlement, Shadowprey Village.
Located in the heart of the zone, the imposing instance entrance for the underground labyrinth of Maraudon awaits adventurers.
Desolace was only a handful of places that received a silver lining after the destruction of the Cataclysm. The carnage seemed to allow massive amounts of water to flow into the zone, and transform it from a barren wasteland to a much more pleasant landscape.
